The minimum wage is a critical labor standard designed to set a wage floor for the country’s lowest-paid workers. But the federal minimum wage has been stuck at $7.25 an hour since 2009, and its eroding value is a major driver of inequality. EPI research shows that raising the minimum wage delivers substantial raises to millions of workers,  particularly women and workers of color, with little-to-no cost to employment.
