  Marni Von Wilpert is a former NLRB attorney who helped write the comprehensive labor law reform legislation, the Protecting the Right to Organize (Pro) Act, and a member of the Nonprofit Professional Employees Union while working at the Economic Policy Institute.

  “One of my biggest priorities for running for Congress myself is to finish this work, to come back as a member of Congress and finally get labor law reform across the finish line,” von Wilpert said.

  Her Republican opponent, Jim Desmond, worked as a pilot for Delta Air Lines, where he was a member of the pilots’ union, Air Line Pilots Association, but has opposed unions on project labor agreements.

• Study: Immigration policies are hurting economy, working families

  Immigration policies have left nearly 2 million people without work permits, disrupting key industries across the nation, according to a new report by the American Civil Liberties Union and AFL-CIO.

  The report, citing an analysis by the Economic Policy Institute, a nonprofit that advocates on behalf of low and middle-income workers, said the federal government allocated $30 billion for immigration enforcement during fiscal year 2025, which runs from October to September, compared with $2.2 billion for labor protections.

  A new report finds the pay gap between CEOs and employees moved up sharply in 2025, with top executives making 325 times more than the typical worker. Since 1978, CEO compensation has increased by over 1,300% while worker pay has risen just 28%. This comes as a separate survey of US mayors reveals that 93% of residents feel the cost of living has worsened over the past year, with many struggling to afford housing, groceries, and childcare.

• CEOs now earn 325 times more than workers, report says

  America’s chief executives are getting paid more than ever.

  A report from the Economic Policy Institute found that CEO pay at the top 350 companies rose 14% in 2025 to an average of $28 million.

  That means CEOs now make roughly 325 times as much as a typical worker. In 1965, CEOs were paid just 21 times the average worker’s salary.

  The report said that from 1978–2025, top CEO compensation skyrocketed 1,316% while typical workers’ compensation increased only 28%.

  “CEO pay has not climbed so fast because their skills or productivity rose spectacularly. It has risen instead simply because CEOs have gained and used increasing leverage over the corporate boards that set their pay,” the report says.
