On July 1, the U.S. Department of Labor announced several regulatory proposals and administrative changes that would overturn or weaken dozens of worker protection regulations, ranging from pay protections to workplace safety standards. These include, among others:
- Taking away the right of home care workers and domestic workers to earn overtime pay and at least the federal minimum wage, which was extended to them for the first time in a 2013 rule.
- Rolling back expanded labor protections for farm workers on temporary guest worker visas
- Withdrawing a proposed rule that would have stopped employers from paying workers with disabilities a subminimum wage
- Ending anti-discrimination protections for employees of federal contractors
