Job growth has its ups and downs

Job growth in January was disappointing, but revisions to growth in 2006 shows that employment grew more quickly in recent months than was previously reported, according to today’s  Jobs Picture by EPI senior economist Jared Bernstein. 

Even with these additions, the overall jobs recovery still remains weak in historical terms, with jobs growing at half the rate of the 1990s recovery.  Bernstein brings added significance to these monthly ups and downs in an illustration which shows labor force growth accelerating in recent months, proving that working-age persons are responding to the improving job market by getting into the game.
