The Economic Policy Institute (EPI) and The Century Foundation (TCF) will co-host an economic and labor focused summit featuring remarks by Vice President Joe Biden and U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand on Thursday, September 13, at the U.S. Navy Memorial in Washington, DC.
Vice President Biden will deliver remarks outlining his ideas to strengthen the middle class. He will be introduced by Randi Weingarten, president of the American Federation of Teachers (AFT). Sen. Gillibrand will focus on ways that the federal government can help spur job creation, expand opportunity, and raise wages for Americans of all backgrounds.
Biden and Gillibrand will be joined by more than 200 experts, advocates, policymakers, business owners, and advocates from across the country, including many from the industrial heartland. EPI will release new research on U.S. wage trends at the event. TCF will report back on lessons learned from their yearlong “High Wage America” tour through Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Illinois, and will present concrete policies that federal lawmakers can use to raise wages, help revitalize manufacturing, and strengthen local communities in the Midwest and beyond.
