News from EPI Media Advisory: Senator Sherrod Brown, Senator Jeff Sessions to Join EPI Press Call On Steel Import Crisis

On Tuesday, May 13 at 12:00 p.m. Eastern, the Economic Policy Institute (EPI) and the Alliance for American Manufacturing (AAM) will host a media teleconference to discuss a new report from EPI and the Law Offices of Stewart and Stewart, Surging Steel Imports Put Up To Half a Million U.S. Jobs at Risk. Senator Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio), Senator Jeff Sessions (R-Ala.) and AAM President Scott Paul will join the reports’ authors, EPI Director of Trade and Manufacturing Policy Research Robert Scott and Partner of the Law Offices of Stewart and Stewart Elizabeth Drake, to discuss their findings.

In the aftermath of the Great Recession, state-backed steel companies in China, South Korea, India and elsewhere have increased production even as demand has stagnated, and the United States has become a prime target for manufacturers to unload excess steel supply at below-market rates. Since 2011, U.S. steel imports have surged and prices have plummeted, putting the U.S. steel industry and the half a million jobs it supports at risk.

Email Dan Crawford at dcrawford@epi.org to RSVP and receive an embargoed copy of the report.
