November’s job-seekers ratio, the ratio of unemployed workers to job openings, was unchanged from October’s ratio, at 3.3-to-1. In her analysis, EPI economist Heidi Shierholz notes that job openings and hiring, which were both essentially flat in November, remain the primary concerns in the labor market. The number of job openings, which had been making fairly steady improvement since its low of 2.2 million in July 2009, was up by just 11,000 at 3.7 million; there has been no improvement in job openings since March 2012. Likewise, hires were essentially flat in November, up by 3,000, and have made no progress since the first quarter of this year.
