Trifling job growth rate fails backlog of nearly 14 million unemployed

In today’s Jobs Picture, EPI economist Heidi Shierholz gives a full analysis of the latest numbers from BLS showing 80,000 jobs were added in October and the unemployment rate nudged down slightly to 9.0% from 9.1%.  But more importantly, her analysis reveals that the entire improvement in the unemployment rate since its peak two years ago is due to workers either dropping out of, or never entering, the labor force.
