In what is sure to be a thought-provoking and lively discussion, Krugman will explain the urgency of fixing the nation’s jobs crisis and why everyone, from concerned citizens to decision makers, have a vested interest in focusing on solutions that truly seek to restore the nation’s labor market and economy. Following the book talk, Krugman will address audience questions and sign copies of his book.
Though the “Great Recession” officially ended four years ago, the damage it wrought remains all too visible, with miserably slow economic growth, 24 million unemployed or underemployed Americans, and no hope of getting back to full employment in the near future at recent rates of job growth. With the nation’s future more uncertain than in recent memory, now is the time to implement policies that prioritize healing our labor market and creating good jobs for America’s families.
In End This Depression Now! – to be released on April 30th – Krugman walks the reader through the financial crisis that triggered the greatest downturn since the Great Depression, outlines how policymakers have failed to address it adequately, and details how they have instead focused on deficit reduction and other distractions. In the book, Krugman explains why the policies that have been enacted fail to capture the true scope of the problem. He goes on to detail what should and can be done to get the country back on track. As he asserts in the book, we have not only seen this situation before, we also know how to remedy it; all we lack is the political will to take action.
