Can ‘No Child Left Behind’ Be Repaired?

President Bush just called on Congress to reauthorize the No Child Left Behind Act, proposing $1.5 billion to expand reading, math and science testing for high school students. But can widening the scope of NCLB truly make schools accountable, or is there an alternate solution to measuring and ensuring student achievement? Two education experts – Richard Rothstein, research associate for the Economic Policy Institute, and Robert Gordon, senior fellow at the Center for American Progress – debate the impact of the law and how it should be changed in this timely published conversation from EPI and CAP.
