Jobs numbers contract first time since August 2003

“January’s payroll numbers send a clear signal that the labor market is in or teetering on recession,” said EPI senior economist Jared Bernstein. In today’s Jobs Picture, Bernstein gives a thorough analysis which shows weaknesses revealed this month are consistent with a clear pattern of slowing job growth and not just a monthly anomaly.
