EPI Applauds the DC Council’s Vote to Raise the Minimum Wage

The Economic Policy Institute celebrates the DC Council’s unanimous vote to raise the minimum wage from $8.25 an hour to $11.50 an hour by 2016 and to index it to inflation thereafter. Low wage workers across the nation need a raise, and the District of Columbia is no exception. There is unfinished business with regard to the obscenely low cash wage that tipped employees are entitled to under the law. Either the Council or the voters by referendum should revisit the decision to keep the tipped minimum wage so low.
