Shanele Thompson joined EPI as Director of Human Resources in 2019, bringing with her expertise in change management, employee relations, benefits administration, and organizational strategic planning.
Prior to joining EPI, Thompson was the Human Resources Director at a tech startup in Washington, D.C. Before that, she worked in personnel management at a government consulting agency in Arlington, Virginia, supporting contractors at the National Guard Bureau, the Joint Task Force, and the Department of Defense. She has also served youth in DSS (Department of Social Services) and DJS (Department of Justice Services) custody in Maryland, helping them learn life skills so that they could successfully transition out of the system as a ward of the state. Thompson started her career as a reading recovery specialist for underserved youth in Prince George’s County, Maryland, through the nonprofit America Reads.
Thompson did her graduate studies in finance management, human resource management, and organizational design at Strayer University and George Mason University. She received her bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from the School of Behavioral and Social Sciences at the University of Maryland, College Park, with a minor in black women’s studies.
Thompson was born in Boston, Massachusetts, and grew up in a military family. In her free time, she enjoys baking and corporate event planning.
