Underlying data are from Current Population Survey Annual Social and Economic Supplement (CPS-ASEC) Historical Poverty Tables, Table 3, “Poverty Status, by Age, Race, and Hispanic Origin,” and from CPS-ASEC microdata; see Appendix A for details. As with most other CPS data analyses presented in the book, race/ethnicity categories are mutually exclusive (i.e., white non-Hispanic, black non-Hispanic, and Hispanic any race).
