Note: Monthly sales in retail (seasonally adjusted) were multiplied by 7% to get an estimate of tip income. This tip income was divided by an estimate of monthly hours – employment of production and non-supervisory employees in eating and drinking places multiplied by average weekly hours and then multiplied by (52/12) to get a monthly equivalent. The figure shows the change in tips per hour and hourly earnings for production and non-supervisory workers as a 3-month rolling average to smooth the data.
