Health industry employment outpaces that of providers 

Critics who assail the health insurance industry for collecting premiums while denying deserving claims and coverage may be alarmed that the employment of that industry has been growing at an astounding rate over the last 10 years — twice the rate of those workers who actually treat patients and four times faster than the overall rate of employment growth.

In today’s Snapshot, EPI vice-president Ross Eisenbrey shows how from August 1997 to August 2007, employment in the health insurance industry grew 52%, while employment among physicians, nurses, and others who provide health services grew just half as fast, by 26%.
