Effects of financial embargo on Palestine
Severe poverty is on the rise in Palestine, according to a new report from the Democratic Workers’ Rights Center, the Global Policy Network partner in Palestine. The report notes that the financial embargo imposed on Palestine has resulted in a quarter of Palestinian workers not receiving their salaries for the past six months. Per capita income in Palestine is less than 8 percent of Israeli per capita income and Palestinian family income is severely skewed with the top 20 percent receiving 48.5 percent of total family income and the bottom 20 percent receiving only 4.6 percent.
