Statement of EPI President Lawrence Mishel on Rep. Schakowsky’s proposed jobs legislation

Rep. Jan Schakowsky announced today that she will introduce legislation to create more than two million jobs in school construction and maintenance, making physical improvements in national parks and forests and on public lands, and through the creation of several programs to deliver health, childcare and other needed services.  The bill will provide $227 billion over two years and will be paid for by closing corporate tax loopholes and creating a higher tax bracket for millionaires and billionaires.

“This is the kind of jobs pivot President Obama and the Congress should embrace,” said EPI President Lawrence Mishel.  “Rep. Schakowsky’s program is big enough to make a difference, and it would deliver real benefits to American families and communities.”
