News from EPI EPI Responds to University Presidents on Internship Regulations

EPI Vice President Ross Eisenbrey sent the following letter today to U.S. Labor Secretary Hilda Solis. The letter is a response to an April 28 letter to Solis from 13 university presidents asking Solis not to regulate student internships. As Eisenbrey points out, internships are already regulated, and for good reasons – to prevent exploitation of student workers and to ensure that employers don’t replace regular paid employees with unpaid interns. A recent EPI policy memorandum argues for updating these regulations and enforcing them more vigorously.
