EPI research plays a critical role in combating misinformation about proposed regulations to protect the environment by quantifying the potential costs and benefits of rules proposed or finalized by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). EPI’s analysis examines many channels—largely missed in the federal government’s own assessments—through which environmental regulations affect the demand for labor. One such often-overlooked factor is the spur to economic growth from increased investment in equipment to address environmental hazards. With the U.S. economy still operating far below potential, anything that spurs output and employment is amplified as income earned by newly hired workers and firms is respent in the economy.
