As two of the foremost experts from opposite sides of the Atlantic, Heidi and Thorsten will share their extensive knowledge about the most important issues in recent attempts to raise the minimum wage in both the U.S. and E.U. They will also discuss the similarities, differences and tensions between state, national and supranational campaigns, as well as possibilities for cross-border solidarity, promising new initiatives, and concrete next steps in the fight to raise the minimum wage.

Heidi Shierholz is a labor market economist at the Economic Policy Institute, a non-profit, non-partisan think tank that works to broaden discussions about economic policy to include the needs of low- and middle-income workers.

Thorsten Schulten is a senior researcher at the Hans Böckler Foundation’s Institute for Economic and Social Research, which acts as the principal think tank for trade unions in Germany.
