The Legislative Attack on American Wages and Labor Standards

Date: October 31, 2013

October 31

11:00 am – 12:30 pm

State legislators across the country have launched an unprecedented series of initiatives aimed at lowering labor standards, weakening unions, and eroding workplace protections for both union and non-union workers. In the forthcoming Economic Policy Institute report The Legislative Attack on American Wages and Labor Standards, Gordon Lafer, EPI research associate and associate professor at the University of Oregon, reviews these changes at the state level since 2010. He illuminates the agenda to undermine wages and labor standards for non-union Americans as well as the assaults on the rights of unionized workers.

After Lafer presents his findings, EPI Vice-President Ross Eisenbrey and Virginia Delegate Patrick Hope (D-47) will offer comments.  The Washington Post reporter Niraj Chokshi will moderate.
