The high impact of manufacturing job loss in states

The U.S. has lost nearly 3 million good paying manufacturing jobs since the most recent business cycle peak in 2001.  As EPI economic analyst Liana Fox illustrates in today’s Snapshot, the pain has not been shared equally.  With few exceptions, the hardest hit states are east of the Mississippi, topped by Michigan and the Carolinas. The Snapshot provides a state-by-state chart of manufacturing employment changes as well as a map illustrating manufacturing job loss as a share of total employment in each state.
