NewsFlash: May 28, 2008

Dramatic income swings increase for U.S. families

No wonder Americans are worried about their economic security.  Family incomes are fluctuating more dramatically than they did a generation ago, according to today’s Snapshot by EPI experts Jacob Hacker and Elisabeth Jacobs.  “It is on the downward trips of the economic roller coaster that jobs, houses, savings, and other things gained on the way up get lost,” said Hacker. This and other findings are part of a forthcoming report by Hacker and Jacobs, The Rising Instability of American Family Incomes, 1969-2004, to be released by EPI on May 29, 2008.
